ANGEL 1517 - THE STORMS AND TRANQUILITY
In October 2017 Angel 1517 came in from the Cliffs of Hell (Halzephron in Cornish) to the drawing room at the Bishops Palace in Wells as part of Wells Art Contemporary WAC Rewind.
ANGEL 1517 - THE STORMS AND TRANQUILITY
For two years Angel 1517 has been exposed to the elements on the Cliffs of Hell (Halzephron in Cornish) on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. Her mandala bell, hidden beneath her chest has chimed through the gales, her sackcloth robe has decayed, her skeleton of mild steel rusted.
The Angel is in part a personal statement about living on the Cliffs of Hell, through the darkest storms and tranquil summer days and in part this work is intent on drawing us back to an understanding of humility. The grace to counter the babble and short term fix of the present day.
Two thousand sixteen and seventeen have been brutal socio-politically. All reasonableness seemingly lost with media tsars and politicians primary objective being their personal success, very few of them appear to care about what’s best for humanity. A simple kindness. An awe of nature. A universality of human kind.
The plinth on which the Angel stands will bear the words of the witness - the beginning of a dialogue.
